How screwed is my 6L80
Been having bad vibrations that I keep thinking I fix but it always comes back. By pinion and trans angle had been messed up so I fixed that but still had problems. Shook the u-joints and found play in the rear on the axle so I removed the drive shaft to replace u-join. Just for fun I tried to move the trans output shaft and it moved eaisly
So can someone please tell me how screwed my trans is and what it will take/cost to fix???? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSzM...ature=youtu.be

Is there noise? Also check the flywheel bolts. When does it do the shutter? Speed/RPM?

Re: How screwed is my 6L80
What is your 6L80E out of?
With the Slip Yoke removed....The Output Shaft will have play, But not enough to rub on the extension housing Bushing. Driveline vibrations/harmonics CAN cause Bushings to walk out of their bores. Usually the Extension housing bushing, But Case bushing can walk too. Tell me how much lateral play it has, If it easily pushes over to the Seal/Bushing, Pull the Extension housing & make sure the Case Bushing is in place. |

Re: How screwed is my 6L80
There is a little seal/bushing/bearing thingy in there, which apparently can be replaced. Not sure if thats your problem, but the part is like $23 (I saw 3 listings, all referring to it a little differently. One was a seal, another was a seal/bushing, and the last said bearing/retainer...I don't know if the part is all 3, or one of the above).
Never pulled one out myself, but we had a 6l80e that we wanted to put a truck yoke on and saw the parts listed.

Re: How screwed is my 6L80
Clyde, no real noise, just the shakes at around 55 and then gets worse as speed increases. I was driving real slow the other day and noticed it also started at about 24 mph but only while in the last seconds befor it shifts to third. This only happens when I drive slow allowing trans pressure to grow. No real rpm that I can tell.
Cline, it is out of a 2011 Silverado, both engine and trans. I will check the rest when I get back home. Brew, thanks for the info, I will check it out! I know absolutely nothing about transmissions!!

Re: How screwed is my 6L80
That doesn't look like a ton of play to me, only looks like its wiggling 1/16" or so. My 4l60e in my beater truck can move like 1/4"

Re: How screwed is my 6L80
Hey all,
I bought and installed new u-joints and the hum is gone. It took care of the bad vib but there is still a small bit of vibrations but I think it is tire balance as I bought on CL and did not balance them yet, I know, stupid...
