Yeah, you gotta love guys cutting up good parts for restaurant decor. Hopefully the back of the fenders were rusted out...

$3500 ?!?
Ok...how many of you guys are going to dive into your parts pile and start making "art"? OP- You're right would make nice mancave deco, but the price is a bit north for my liking. |

I like it, its cool and all but being double sided kills it for me. Thats a big item to dangle from the ceiling. Would rather be single sided and hang up high on a wall.

Re: Any body into garage art here's a cool piece for sale
I'm an artist/designer by trade & (IMHO) that is pretty useless & ugly. One half of it may have been the start as some kind of wall art, but two halves crudely slapped together for what? Something to trip over?
Car parts as art & functional objects can work - I'm sure many have seen the trunk sections of classics made into a couch or whatever - but this....

Re: Any body into garage art here's a cool piece for sale
Dayum..I'm going in the art business. Cut that baby back in half @ $1750 ea. ...flat steel the backside, line inside for ice, lift the hood reach in and get cold beer...
I can buy 2 pasture trucks for that around here...lol Then I can cut a slab of back section off the cabs, stick them against the wall for a headboards, throw down a mattress frame and finish them off with a tailgate footboard. Let's see...$1750 for ea. of those also. I just quadrupled my money. Not enough tho. Help me out in my new fledgling venture...lol I need ideas for rear fenders and running boards, bed that's missing the tailgate, dash etc..... Last edited by chopit; 02-04-2016 at 09:31 PM. |

Re: Any body into garage art here's a cool piece for sale
I can see any one of us taking some left over pieces that have enough good (for the art project) area left to do something like that and making a wall hanger but hope none of us would pay 3500 for that.
I'd almost bet that comes from a guy on an AD truck page on FB that is always throwing a picture of a fairly decent project truck out and saying "buy it before I cut it up and make an art project or furniture out of it. I wouldn't make the whole bed as Chopit said but I have enough pieces laying around to use the back of a cab that's donating it's cowl for my new cab and what's left of a box that I rather hacked up a few years ago to make an interesting bench to sit on in or beside the shop I don't have yet.

Re: Any body into garage art here's a cool piece for sale
Whats crazy is people that aren't into building these trucks or knowledgeable about them as well as restauants etc. pay crazy prices for the "art" pieces.
I inquired to a craigslist ad the other day for a bit rough but reasonably restorable tailgate thinking $50 or so. He said no I'm selling it as art $450...lol |

I sold my extra tailgate, the one that was missing one end piece, for $150, and the guy was making art.

A lot of people get butt hurt about it.....but I make a pretty good side income on furniture.

Re: Any body into garage art here's a cool piece for sale
I went to the swap meet today with beeps and the place was lousy with old truck art on every corner aisle. I heard prices above what this piece was asking and even saw some of it being carted off, like a lamp made from a flywheel and a camshaft and looking all the world to weigh at least 80 lbs.

Re: Any body into garage art here's a cool piece for sale
I can't for the life of me figure out why that thing would be made with the same on both sides, hopefully it was junk but damn those pieces look pretty solid to me.
I have this table I made from a 56 quarter panel in my living room. And yes it's all real stuff, I made it about 30 years ago. Brian

Re: Any body into garage art here's a cool piece for sale
That's a good lookring table that was probably made out of one of the few good parts of that car that was left.

All the parts at the wrecking yard were $75 if that gives you an idea of what we are talking about. Brian
