Where to start?
So I'm looking for some advice on how to start the refurb of my 66 c10 longbed. Weather was extremely nice today so I took a ride to where I'm storing it to have a look and make a mental note of parts I need to order. Its pretty solid but has rust in most of the usual spots. More than I originally thought. Front and rear cab floor supports on right side are shot. Cab mount bushings are shot. Some rust on tops of inner fenders under hood. Hood extension has been repaired but poorly. At least one rocker and a small portion of the floor(due to a previous poor repair). Maybe lower outer door skins as well. A small part of one cab corner. Its a lot of things but each by themselves doesn't seem that bad to me. What I'm most worried about is I found rust under the sides of the windshield gasket. How bad could this be to repair? Where should I start and in what order? Does it matter? Part of me wants to just unload it knowing its going to take a while to do it right, but its a cool truck that I think as a whole is in pretty good shape for its age. Please help. Haha.

Well, what exactly are you Wanting to do? You considering a drivetrain swap? Does it run and drive now? What type of build are you wanting?

Id like it just to be a cool looking/driving old piece of history. It currently runs and drives mint. It has a 250 with a 4spd on the floor. Pretty original. I could run it the way it is right now and it would be ok. But Id rather stop/slow down the ageing process as much as possible and give it a makeover. No Pebble Beach winner, just a cool old truck.

For me, mechanical. Brakes, hoses, fluids. Make sure all that is good. I would plan cosmetic/body work around where you can still drive it a lot. If it is fairly solid, drive it as you evaluate the sheet metal and other cosmetics. It is way more fun to have a drive-able project, than one you keep looking at and wonder when it will ever get back together to enjoy.

You guys are 100% correct. Part of my hesitation in getting involved was having this thing just sitting for who knows how long while i fix it, between work, family, work, etc. Im just gonna drive it and get to whatever I get to, whenever I can. Thanks for the pep talk.
That being said, I think fixing the cab floor supports and putting in new cab mounts is first on my list of things to fix. Sound good? |

I missed out on my 70 because I got carried away right off the bat to make this great vehicle and ended up missing all the fun of having a project, well at least a good portion of the fun, using it. Someday my 64 will look better, but until life slows down some, I am doing very little that will keep it off the road for long.

The first thing I did was went to a dual master cylinder for the brakes. - safety.
