VIN question
I just purchased a '66 Chevy short bed two weeks ago. Yesterday I was looking at the vin decoder and discovered my vin is for a long bed. I am assuming the cab has been swapped at some point. Even though this seems to be a common practice, does the vin usually follow the cab or the chassis?
I looked at the frame and it has not been shortened. Another odd thing is that the truck is a rear leaf spring suspension. I know chevy's could be ordered with rear leaf springs but it got me wondering if maybe I have a GMC chassis with a chevy cab? Are there any things I can check to determine if it is a GMC? Are rear leaf chevy's that common? Thanks in advance for your help |

Re: VIN question
If the VIN is for a LWB it could be a full chassis swap put together truck or just a cab swap or just a VIN tag swap. Any pics? How is the VIN tag attached?

Re: VIN question
The last Seven? letters/numbers of the VIN will be stamped on the chassis drivers side top near the engine mounts.

Re: VIN question
I will get those numbers tonight. What can be determined from those?
It looks like the assembly plant and truck number are the last seven. |

Re: VIN question
If it is a GMC frame, there are no VIN numbers on it.

Re: VIN question
Thanks guys. It looks like I bought a GMC/Chevy. There are no numbers on the frame. Cab swapped to a Chevy. Title followed the cab.

Re: VIN question
It's either a frame swap or a chassis swap.
Here is a good link on our VIN's: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=463671
