Shift liknage/shiftter question.
I'm installing my LQ4/4L80E transmission into my 87 Suburban.
after I got the shift linkage connected, I had the idea to make sure I could shift through the gears afterward. I put the key in and turned the key to unlock the steering, and I can only shift from park into reverse. Do I need to have power hooked up to my harness/transmission to shift into the other gears, or did I do something wrong? Seems like I could move the shifter tab through all the gears before I hooked it up but I could be wrong.

Re: Shift liknage/shiftter question.
I would look ok into the linkage. Something is more than likely not adjusted right. You do not need power to move the shift lever through the gears.

I'll check the adjustment next chance I get. Also just want to confirm, if I turn the shift rod on the transmission all the way clockwise until it stops means I'm in park right? I'm using the stock shifter assembly, but I do have a Lokar unit if I can't use the stock one for some reason.

Re: Shift liknage/shiftter question.
On the trans the shift lever should be all the forward for park. Toward the bell housing.

I think there is another thread about shift linkage and 4l80 s. It will take some tweaking to make work
