7.00-16 tire option

I bought a 75 chevy half ton 4x4 the other day. On the SPID it lists 7.00-16 tires as an option. That is something I have never seen before on these model trucks. Most had 15 inch rims. Does anyone here have a 73 or newer truck that has factory 16's on it?

Usually on fleet or government trucks ....tire code was XNK/YNK/ZNK for highway tread and XNL/YNL/ZNL for on/off road tread.
6 ply rating and nylon....lumpy in the morning.

I have always heard of this but never seen any. I have been looking for 6 lug 16" steel wheels for a while. I just checked ebay and google last week and they don't exist. They must be very very rare. I would think a used set would turn up sometime. I could go wagon wheels but I like my hubcaps.

How wide are your wheels? I have a set off a 71, also listed on its spid. They are only 5" wide I believe. It has 7.00-16 tires as well. I have them on my 74 stepside now. I was wondering if the backspace and width for 73+ is the same as 72- they sit inside the fender a bit too far. I use them as my bodywork rollers. Haha. They give me lots of room around the fender lip for work. I'll post a pic later today once I get home. I ran them for awhile daily years ago with the original caps from the 15's and the thin rings off the 88-98 16" steel wheels snapped on. Gives a 3/4 ton look.

Thanks for the info/trivia. 5" wheels would probably work fine for 235 tires but it is still pretty narrow. If the backspace is different they may look weird. They may have been different for 73 and up wheels. Still wondering.

Yes my truck is a 4x4. Here is a pic of the spid. I think I have a set of 16 inch wheels for one of these trucks, but they are six lug.

Those wheels look to be a tough find. Here is a pic I found of one; 16 x 5 and 4 nubs.

I think this wheel is the only option and they are quite rare. Thanks for the pic.

If I remember right these are 3.5" backspace an 5" wide

These are also 4 nub same style. I thought 73+ was 3 nub but I could be wrong. I'll take a look at the spid on the 71 to see the option numbers it did list the 7.00-16 Rockin re-treads of a dually 1 ton school bus
