73-87 Cheap Digital Gauge Cluster

I am in the process of a pretty thorough restoration on my 83 GMC K3500, and one of the things being addressed is the gauge cluster. On top of the usual too dim to see at night issue, my cluster was just in pretty poor shape overall. I found this option on ebay, a refurbished unit can be had for $200. Some assembly is required. You have to gut your current cluster to use the plastic frame. You will also find a Dremel handy, as you have to trim a couple studs down, and although the instructions didn't mention it I ended up cutting a couple slots in the bottom of the cluster to make room for the way the wires run. Comes with the needed sensors to make it work (Temp, Oil, Mechanical Speedo Signal adapter)

Seems pretty cool overall! I didn't mind having to put it together with how cheap it ended up being.

Here is it all assembled and running off a 9v battery in my kitchen. Should be in my truck sometime in the next couple months.

Notes: It has a high beam indicator and a brake warning light.
In my case I am adding a 4x4 indicator light that I will drill and install into the bezel, since there is no provision for it here. You would have to do the same if you have a year truck that requires a Check engine light.

That's is very cool. And $200 isn't bad for a nice set of gauges. Do u have the link?

Re: 73-87 Cheap Digital Gauge Cluster

just go to ebay and search "seller:templartech"

They will have new ones for 399, and refurbished for 199.

Since you have to use your own cluster housing and lense anyhow, and they send new black glass to place behind it, I really don't know what the advantage to getting no over refurb? not when you can buy a second refurbished one as a replacement and it be the same price.

They also have them in red, blue and white LED, but the availability of all the colors in remanufactured units may vary.

Question Re: 73-87 Cheap Digital Gauge Cluster

Digging up an old thread....

Thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these for my '88 R30 dually since the previous owner swapped to a NV4500 (electric speedo drive). Having an in dash tach would be nice too. Plus the stock oil pressure gauge is inaccurate.

Anyone have any regrets using one of these kits, the refurbished ones are now $285.

Yeah....that doesn't help me.

That is to convert a mechanical drive from a transmission to an electric speedo.

I have an electric drive NV4500 with a speedo cable speedometer.
