Help with Speedometer cable

So here is the deal I'm having trouble making my speedometer to work it used to work before I took my cab out for repairs and once I installed it back it don't work no of more. I just changed my cluster last week for a refurbished one from Fred's truck parts and tried to get it to work but I'm not sure if there is a specific way to install it because even bough a new cable thinking mine was bad but still can't get it to work.
Can someone please help with this I have a total of 3 cables can't seem to make any of them work so I know I'm doing something wrong.
Last one I installed I installed it to the transmission first then to the dash.

you said you've changed your cluster, is it working? work by elimination.
plug you cable to the speedo and spin the other end with a drill and see if the speedo is working. then plug the cable to the tranny and spin the wheels and see if the other end of the cable is spinning.
i remember that is a counterclock motion to make the speedo work

Yes I tested the new cluster before it went in and it worked I haven't check the transmission so I will try that hopefully today .
Is there a side I have to connect first or does it matter?

inside the trans are 2 small plastic gears one of them is probably toast they are right where the speedo cable bolts into on the trans

I had the same issue and mine was a missing gear on the end of the output shaft inside the tranny. Not an easy fix, least to me.

Mine solved itself when the tranny blew and I put in a new rebuilt one.

But as mentioned there is a gear on the end on the transmision and one on the end of the speedometer cable. Hopefully yours is just the one on the end of the speedo cable. about 15-20 to get a new one, but you might have to change it again to get one that will match whatever tire/wheel combo you have on your truck.

I had the same problem and had to change my speedometer driven gear (worn out)which is located in the transmission. you will have to take out your drive shaft. here is a link to give you an idea and also where I ordered the driven gear.

I can unscrew the cable from the trans, but how do I get the next part out to change the gear for calibration? Does it just pull out or do I need to undo something else?

The bolt just ot the rear of where the cable goes on. Take it out and a stright metal piece locks uin the bullet you'll see why it has that name. Have your trip pan ready as when you pull it out you'll loos some gear/tranny fluid. The gear we are talking about slides into the bullet.
