non '66 back up lights for stepside?
Hi. I was wondering if any one has the optional back up lights on their '60 to '65 stepside? I would love to find the rubber gasket to mount back up lights to a regular fender. Are these as rare as unicorns?

LMC has them. I'm sure others have them as well. Light housings are a pretty commonly reproduced item.

I think he means the tapered rubber wedges.

Yeah, the "mounting wedges" are what I mean. Anyone have them installed on their truck? I'd like to see pictures.

Re: non '66 back up lights for stepside?
I used NOS Unity back up lights on my 1960 GMC stepside. They have smaller diameter lights with the rubber alignment discs. Mine can be seen on post 87, half way down on page 4 of build thread:

Love the truck, and the lights! For some strange reason, I really want the fender mounted back up lights. I think because I think they are rare. And my fenders are already cut up, with old after market tail lights mounted on the fenders, not on the brackets.

Re: non '66 back up lights for stepside?
MarkeB,
Love the '59 Caddie lights. Looks great with the dual headlights. Completes the package. Vetnat, I have had success before using exhaust tubing and sheet metal. Wish I had a pic. Cut one end at an angle to match the fender, use a grinder to match the contour and weld a piece of sheet on it to mount the light. Or you could do it in reverse and cut a hole in the fender to match the diameter of the tube, weld it in straight and level, cut and grind the excess flat with the contour of the fender, weld sheet to the back of the tube and mount your light. Viola, frenched reverse lights! You just have to find the right diameter of tube to match the light. |
