seatbelt recommendation

Can anyone recommend a manufacturer for replacement seat belts? I need the belt and mechanism. I tried to fix my stuck retractor and the thing flew aprt on me and i think it is officially dead.

I can not find info for the second row seats. My 89 burb has two retractors per belt set up. the ones i see for sale show the shoulder with a retrator and the belt across the lap as fixed.


seatbelts plus, LMC??? they all might be made by the same place and rebranded.

those links appear to look similar to the other aftermarket belts. one fixed and one retract and the slip is at the latch.

I scored two blue interior burbs within minutes of my home on CL. go figure. last time i was hunting for blue interior parts it took forever and i had to ship across the country.

i bought both sets of belts from the trucks for ~10 each. If anyone need blue interior parts the trucks are mostly complete and in decent condition.

My quess is you won't like them. They don't even have a plastic cover that goes over the retractor.

Subbing to thread. Got a set from seatbeltsplus.com and it looks like they took the floor mounting brackets outside and shot them with .410 bird shot before they packed them up. Called to return them, emailed pics, got zero response. Called again and the rep went "into the back" to look at all of them and said that they were all chipped to some degree. So now I need new ones.

I don't believe I had to use mine when I installed my belts. If you pay for the shipping, I can send them to you.

I bought mine from a vendor here. Belts look good. The retractor looks like square pictured above. I used parts of old seatbelt to make a bracket so these fit like stock. They look good now and work as they should.

They came with the belts for some type of universal mounting. But I don't remember having to use anything, they mounted right up. I'll have to look again at my belts and see for sure. But I know I still have the packages with all the parts.

Seatbeltsplus sent me my new units. The mounting brackets are much, much better but are still a little chipped. I'm going to live with it. I wonder how these painted surfaces end up looking from other suppliers.

TKCR that looks good. On a crew the mounting ddi not work to fit between the b pillar and the seat on my application.

They do now!!

I changed mine out as they were worn and blue now my interior is DARK gray.

Well you can always send them back if they are not what you would like in your truck. I know when I was looking for belts, I looked at numerous websites until I found the ones I liked. I wanted the right color and look, so it took some time to find the right belts.

the ones from LMC dont need covers for the retractors. they dont mount to the floor they mount out of site to the side of the seat behind the door striker

Back to these seat belts,,,

I was going to order a set from Wesco but i do not see how they will mount in my 89 suburban. I have one bolt and it is almost behind the front seat near to the pillar and in the floor. Did you just drill a new hole and use a backing plate?

Does anyone have a burb and how did you modify the brackets. Also, it looks like it requires another mount for the stationary end of the bolt. How does that work??

They give you a mounting kit. It will have various brackets to choose from, so that your belts will mount the way you need them too. Most of what is in the kit, you won’t use because it only takes a few items to do so.

When I redid my 82 (stock seat) and 83 (92 C1500 seat) C10, I used belts from a 92-98 Chevy/GMC extended cab truck. The bolt right in place of the old belts and are way better mechanism/re-tractors than the 80's style.

Whenever I get unlazy, I will probably do the same thing for my 81.

On the topic of seatbelts, my 83 belts do not inertia lock when I tug on them. Whenever I find seat belts on old squares in the junkyards they all do the same thing. Are they all designed like this? It seems like the shoulder harness won't do any good if they won't lock upon impact.

Seatbelts are designed to have ALR & ELR safety functions. ALR “Automatic Locking Retractor”/ ELR “Emergency Locking Retractor”. I’m going to say, that I bet our older seatbelts on our trucks, only have the ELR function, but I’m not certain on that. I know the newer vehicles, by law, have both. When I worked at the Auto Factory, that was my job for the last 5 yrs, was checking the functions of the seatbelts. I also checked other quality & safety features on the vehicles.
There are two types of ELR functions, the sensitivity to the webbing withdrawal rate and the sensitivity to vehicle deceleration. Now the only correct way to check this, would be to sit in the seat and buckle the belt. Pull the belt out a little and then let the excess retract back, the belt can’t have a lot of excess or slack, or it will not lock probably. Now grab the belt, where it goes acrossed your chest and yank on it hard. It should lock.
