installed my sport bumper, review of vendor
Well, after lowering my '79 that old silver step bumper had to go. I checked several vendors and decided to go with the cheaper one from a vendor I like and trust. I was skeptical, but it fits great and was a nice complete kit. It came with brackets, bolts, bumper, license plate box and light. Complete bolt on package. As you can see from the pics below it looks great! The only odd thing about it is the bulbous chrome bumper bolts that look odd to me, but I kinda like them. I bolted it all together and it lined up perfectly.
The chrome is really nice, but the bumper itself is not perfectly smooth. There are small dents and wobbles. For the price though, I am very happy. Bumper kit is from Truck Shop of Orange and it cost me $315 shipped to my door. http://www.truckandcarshop.com/7387.html |

How does the strength, or thickness, compare to OEM? I read somewhere the LMC bumpers are thin and flimsy.

They are. I ordered one a few years back and it was half the weight of the OEM bumper. I had the stock bumpers rechromed locally and was much happier.

I'm glad I did not get the LMC bumpers now. Good to know. They were considerably more money too.

You have a good chrome shop there? I don't have anyone close to me.

Re: installed my sport bumper, review of vendor
This bumper is pretty thick, I haven't seen the LMC bumper to compare. But I definitely would not be afraid to stand on this one. The brackets are very beefy and thick.

Very pretty truck. Bumper looks good, but what are you gonna step on to climb into the bed at the dump?

Re: installed my sport bumper, review of vendor
My tailgate, in the down position, is now lower than the step bumper was before I lowered it.
Thanks for the compliment! I do take it to the dump, just not in the rain any more. |

More proof! The bed floor of this truck looks like it was used to haul boulders, I have no problem throwing stuff in it.

Re: installed my sport bumper, review of vendor
Man. You got me so excited about the cost! But found out they don't offer the whole kit for an 81-87, and just the brackets are over twice as much as the 73-80! $135 compared to $65. Sad day.

Re: installed my sport bumper, review of vendor
73-75s are definitely my favorite. I've owned two. I couldn't pass up the deal I got on this 87.
