1960 ignition switch question to radio.

Have a 1960 truck and looking to replace the rear terminal part. When the truck is running the radio cuts in and out but when I shut it off it plays. Brand new Retro-sound radio. I was reading it could be your switch, when I tune the key is can see the back twist a little. Trying to find a new switch. I have 5 wires coming out but two isn't hooked up to nothing

Re: 1960 ignition switch question to radio.

If you have a 5 wire switch it is not a stock 60.
A universal switch has : 1) Battery power 2) accessory 3) ignition 4) Starter
Not sure what the 5th wire is.
Most after market radios have two power wire, one that is hot all the time wired to the B (battery ) terminal and one wired to the ACC ( accessory) terminal.
I would make sure it is wired correctly first
Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the heads up. The radio plays with the engine not running but as soon I start it, it cuts out. All the power is coming from the fuse block, constant power and the power when the key it turned on.

Had the same problem with 3 different radios. Changed the radio to a sony 200 watt high powered radio that has a built in amp. It required a 30 amp wire ran straight to battery and "boom"!! no more radio cutout problems.

Right now have a 16 gage wire from battery to stereo. I was wondering if it's the HEI messing with it.
