new to me1989 suburban

hey all. just picked up 89 burn. pretty clean truck for the year.
couple quick questions. driving it home yesterday, i noticed that at higher speed the truck trembled pretty bad.
speedometer does not work.
thing that counts your miles does not work....says 40k
temp gauge does not work.

i want to lower the truck a little bit. no big money for big name kits maybe shackle in rear and cut a coil or two. just not sure how hard it will be to get to the spring.

got the truck from a 92 yr old man. he picked the truck up from the town/fire department 15 yrs ago. he put maybe 5k on the truck in 15yrs..

any ideas where to start looking to see if i can fix speedo and other things? thanks in advance.

For the speedo, first thing I would check is the cable.
