Top end 5.3 please advise

Hello,
I am a 67-72 Die Hard.
I recently picked up a 2000 Yukon with a 5.3 and posted in that forum.
Very little response or activity. Obviously a gear head is a gear head. I am just looking for input.
Here is what I posted.

Hello,
I acquired this vehicle and it appear to be worth fixing.

Bad head or gasket. I just ordered a set of remanufactured heads.

While I have this torn apart, what else should I do to the motor.

Vehicle had noisy lifters but also had bad head gasket or cracked head.

I don't want to spend more than needed but don't want to tear it apart in 6 months to replace something I could easily replace now.

I have not gotten the heads off yet. Almost there. I decided better just purchase heads for $300 than to just put gaskets on the old ones. These are the head I purchased http://www.ebay.com/itm/201358045312...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Would you replace the lifters or just clean them?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you!!

You can get to the knock sensors easy when the go bad. I would leave them alone until then.

What's a knock sensor?

Have you tried your question in the LS swap forum? It may be for swaps but that is what you have and at least that is a place that is related to LS engines. Lots of action here, but it is for topics specific to 67-72 trucks

The knock sensors do not live in an air tight environment and are susceptible to water intrusion and do corrode. When you pull the intake off, take a look at them and then decide. Change the knock sensor harness as well, if the sensors are corroded. The parts are readily available at most parts stores, and not cost prohibitive. Most likely, the sensor seals will have hardened and should be replaced if you pull the sensors

I purchased lifters and trays, push rods, knock sensor, and the wiring harness that goes with knock sensor.

Would anyone consider soaking the intake and TBI in kerosene, diesel, or some other type of solution to clean it?

I immersed mine in dawn dish detergent and hot water in a trash can. Followed that with a rinse and purple power and it was clean.
