Doing a swap using an 09 Silverado motor question about sensor on timing chain cover
I'm doing a swap using the motor out of a 09 Silverado and have a question about the sensors on the front side of the motor, on the timing chain cover, do they stay or remove them? or replace the timing cover with one that doesn't have the sensors? What exactly are they? Will the engine start? thanks in advance

Re: Doing a swap using an 09 Silverado motor question about sensor on timing chain co
your talking about the CAM position sensor. Yes you need to keep it, unless your going carb'd (i think only the crank position sensor is required for the carb'd spark box).
there are 2 different covers, one with cam position sensor and one without. the one without it used on the earlier engines because the cam sensor is on top of the block behind the intake manifold. but i do not believe that the newer engines have a provision for this placement. the 2 different options are usually noted by most swappers as a single bolt cam front cover or a 3 bolt cam front cover. and YES you need the cam position sensor or your engine will not start. -Izzy
