Did I just get a spun cam bearing?
Title says it all....
It's coming from right in the middle of the engine. Video: https://youtu.be/5NSLeAGFWBs Last edited by Custom/20; 12-09-2016 at 12:13 AM. |

Did you lose any oil pressure? Could it be lifter or valvetrain noise?

Re: Did I just get a spun cam bearing?
I should've watch the video first. Hard to tell from the sound quality. The noise is it coming from down below is it? Is it automatic or standard? A loose flywheel or bad torque converter?

It's coming from the front of the engine. It was much louder when it first started and it's more up top.

Longshot. Wouldn't be lucky enough to be a water pump?

Re: Did I just get a spun cam bearing?
I'm gonna let it warm up all the way and check the oil pressure and post back. I know where it's at when idling when hot so if it dropped I'll know. It is running fine but that noise....

loosen up the belts and remove them. then start it. it won't hurt anything for a few minutes, to see if noise goes away...

Re: Did I just get a spun cam bearing?
Yeah, once I let it warm up the sound just started to go away the warmer the engine got. Haven't heard it since it warmed up. I've drove around , let it sit in the 25 degree weather to where the engine was cool and drove it again and it hasn't made a peep, even after a hour of drifting in the snow... It must have been the belts I guess. Oil and temp are all normal and it's running smooth on all cylinders.

Re: Did I just get a spun cam bearing?
I thought it sounded like an alternator bearing.

Re: Did I just get a spun cam bearing?
I have seen belts get wet and when they dry out they get hard and sound like a bad bearing. Maybe try some belt dressing on them. I used WD40 in my younger days but wouldn't recommend it now.

Re: Did I just get a spun cam bearing?
Judging from the video your belts are a size too small. Replace your belts with a set that fit flush or just above the outer edge of the pulley's. While the belts are off, take the time to clean the pulley's and if that slipping belt polished the inside of the pulley, use a file to deglaze the shine and burnt rubber. Once a belt slips inside of the walls of a pulley, it's just a matter of time before it looses it's grip and over tightening will only wear out alt. or power steering pump bearings... http://www.bdi-usa.com/FileUploads/C...e_posters_both[0].pdf
