AC Question for '84 C10
I am trying to reuse my original ac setup in my '84 C10. It presently has an LQ4 and is using a newer R4 compressor for single serpentine setup. I am trying to find the wire or wires that would run to the ac compressor to engage the clutch. This is the only thing holding me up from charging the system and seeing what else I screwed up.

Re: AC Question for '84 C10
Up on the firewall near the junction block is a 2-cavity connector-it should have two green wires coming out of it-one goes to the idle stop solenoid and the other goes to compressor clutch.

Re: AC Question for '84 C10
Here's how my old 84 was wired on the compressor. Also had a green wire to the stop solenoid.
I never did check the source of them. Not much info but might help. |

Re: AC Question for '84 C10
The green wire comes from the lower pressure switch on the receiver drier.

Re: AC Question for '84 C10
Thank you gents. Now for clarification the wires you mentioned, the 2 light green wires terminate in that connector on the firewall and serve no purpose with my LS swap in place. However the dark green wire on that same connector is what goes to the R4 compressor yes? I was thrown off because the light green wires had 12v with the ac on, but the dark green had nothing. I think the low pressure switch is what completes the circuit to get power to the green wire, once conditions are met.

Re: AC Question for '84 C10
As the others have stated, the green wire coming off the pressure switch will power the compressor. That's how my truck with a 5.3 is setup. You could also use the A/C idle up solenoid power wire to trigger a 50amp relay for an electric fan if needed. That way the fan would cut on with the A/C. You can see the black wire running up to the pressure switch.

Re: AC Question for '84 C10
The light green wire supplies power through the pressure switch to the compressor-the compressor then once on, will also trigger the idle solenoid. The climate control panel runs all of the power through it for this so that is why I too prefer to use relays to relax the heavy amp load with everything on.

Re: AC Question for '84 C10
I appreciate the input and will wire the dark green wire to my R4 compressor. Does the low pressure switch sense whatever freon is in the system, then close the circuit from the light green so the dark green has power?
Gmachinz how much oil and freon does the stock system take?

Re: AC Question for '84 C10
Another ac question:
My R4 compressor has a high pressure switch. Do I need to hook that up somewhere? Has anyone ever purchased an oem repro interior climate control panel? (mine looks rough)

Re: AC Question for '84 C10
Like this? Yes, from LMC. I replaced mine while redoing the whole dash. Mine had broken levers.

Re: AC Question for '84 C10
Wasn't sure, it's been a few year, had to go look. Here's the link. Looks like $79.95 plus shipping.
