4.8 swap opinion

I've been looking at all the Ls swap info and everything is about a 5.3, now I got a really good deal on a 4.8 engine and transmission and wiring harness, now is there any reason I should not do the 4.8 and hold out for a 5.3? My goals for the truck is a dependable driver with more power than the tired 350 and of course get rid of carb. I hadn't put much thought into it but it seems nobody or at least not many have done the 4.8. So whats you guys opinion.

Re: 4.8 swap opinion

Do it! The 4.8 is only slightly less hp than the 5.3, and will get a little better mpg. You will still be much better off than a tired 350. The 4.8's can be a great bargain.

I bought a 4.8 2006 rcsb in 2006 and drove it daily until 2014. Great engine, good mileage and zero issues. Go for it

Agreed, there's no reason not to use a 4.8, especially if all you need to do is upgrade from a worn out 350 SBC. They respond just as nicely to mods as the rest of the LS family.

4.8 is a powerhouse compared to the 350. You can also do a 6.0 cam swap and it'll be even better.

Re: 4.8 swap opinion

Thanks guys, I had my mind made up and was happy with the deal I got but the more I researched the swap info and was only seeing 5.3 swaps had me thinking, but I'm happy again.
