go with 2 five gallon tribe tanks and an engine driven compressor setup. You will never be without air and it'll fill quickly without the annoying buzzing bee sound.

Go with at least 10 gallons of air and do the AIR COMMANDER! Well worth it. You can get the AIR COMMANDER for 25% till the end of this month! www.airliftcompany.com Check out the easy street link!

I currently have two 3-gallon tanks and two Thomas 315 compressors. My system only pumps up to 115psi which allows me to completely raise the truck about 2 times. I'm in the process of installing a York engine driven compressor. Once that is installed I'll see if I need any more capacity. I've heard nothing but good things about the York compressor (which is used in the Air Commander kit). I picked up a York in a salvage yard for $30 and am making my own mounting bracket. I figure I'll have about $150 in the York set up. I'll probably leave one of the electric compressors installed just for a back-up air source.

I'm running a 7 gallon tank......(modified and painted air tank from walmart, welded in 4 new 3/8" bungs.)..and have a york compressor...i'm planning on building a bracket to run the compressor off of the rear end yolk...the reason i want to do it this way....is cause i'm out of room on the motor itself....(to look decent anyway). I already have a/c, power steering and alternator....the only downside is the truck has to move to provide air, and to change the belt you have to remove the rear driveshaft connection..i think it'll be a slick install......i just got to get around to doing it.....right now i've just been filling the air tank with a schrader valve...

Rigo- ever think about hooking the york up to a winch type setup. They make one called the Oasis made by Trailhead. Might be easier to setup and you wont really ever have to mess with it!

I am not really looking to raise it up and down alot. One time to get to ride height and let it out when I park. I was thinking about a 7 gallon tank and a vivair 450c. I have two firestone compressors but wonder if the one vivair would do better??

Phantom,
These guys are correct about the York compressor being the shiznits for massive air. The only problem with it is it big and ugly. For the look you are after stay with a pair of smaller compressors. I put a single Viair 400 on my 77, with two 5 gallon tanks. We used the Air Ride "Big Red" valves with 3/8" line. My truck pops up just fine from the aired out position. The only complaint I have is the Viair compressor si really loud. I have two Thompson 317's on my Blazer. Both of them running together is quiter than the Viair. The single Viair still out pumps the two Thompsons though.... |

Phantom,
I don't know what they are by that number. They are possibly 315 or 317. I sold the last 315 I had that was brand new for 100. Everyone is going for bigger compressors now, so the market may not be as good. Post them over on Sportruck.com. Those guys will suck them up pretty quick. |

With those valves, and 1/2" line it's really hard to fine tune your system in small increments. The digital guage will help a lot.... |

Is a viair 550c overkill?? I am going to run a 5 or 7 gall tank.

That looks clean. I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to setup everything inside. I currently have a 10-switch box that I'm keeping because the power windows are tapped into that (Not my idea! haha) I may "steal" your idea of mounting the control panel below the seat or something similar.

I plan to add a textured plastic cover around the guage that will fill the gap below it... |

I plan to run two compressors intead of one once I decide what to run. My feeling are if I every have a compressor fail, I still have a back up to get me home. One 550 would certainly do the job though... |

I agree 1 550 is plenty.
I am going to mount the swiches for the bags in the door panel(away from the window/lock switches) and I'm also going to replace the door window/lock switches to match the ART switches too. I'll probably put my gauges in the A/C vent location above the radio since I'll be pulling all the a/c junk. Also just a good idea imo is to run a hidden keyed switch to the power for the switches so if you're laid out and they don't have the key to the switches they can't steal the truck or the wheels. It's a cheap part like $8 from custom classic. Last edited by Izzy; 10-17-2003 at 10:54 AM. |

I run 9 gal tank, and Co2, no annoying buzzing and no fill time recoop. Plus when you feel frisky you can crank it up to 300psi, right now it runs in the 175-200 range. Oh I will run one of those annoying buzzers as a back up only.
The engine driven compressors would be my only alternative to the bottle.

Whats the life of the Co2 tank? Or, about how much use do you get from it?

Co2 why are you running C02. Dont most people run nitrogen?? I can get c02 for free from work but I would think that having any tank in your truck would be a violation of DOT without the proper paper work.
