Hood Emblem Pronlems
Should read HOOD EMBLEM PROBLEMS (dyslexic and can't spell either.)
Trying to attach the reproduction side hood emblems but its no go. These are the "3100" emblem for the 54 Chevy truck and are expensive. The slide on retainers seem too big to grab the emblem studs. The studs themselves seem too short to leave enough stick thru the hood to grab onto. Are there alternate ways to hold the emblems on? Starting to think everything I paid for from a big online vendor is crappola. Last edited by vintovka; 02-04-2017 at 08:07 PM. |

Re: Hood Emblem Pronlems
What truck do you have? Advanced Design or Task Force? Which year?
For example, there is a difference between '55 and '56 Chevy side emblems beyond where they mount. (Below vs. above belt line) '56's don't fit '55 nor vice versa. On TF trucks they're not "slide on retainers' they're a sheeet metal nut that threads onto the stud coming out of the backside of the emblem.

that measured about .190 inch diameter. I didn't like those retainers either. I carefully started a 10-32 die over the studs and threaded them about two thirds of the way down. I am using 10-32 thin nyloc stainless nuts on them.

Re: Hood Emblem Pronlems
Sorry its a 1954 chevrolet 3100 and can be seen in the attached build/progress link. Will investigate the 10/32 threading idea, Still a ripoff for what these cost, Vendors either don't check their stuff or don't care, Have had issues with almost everything from door handles to seat covers. Sure I'm not alone in this.

I agree to a point... the parts often don't fit exactly,
but compared to my badly pitted originals these are nice. I have come to expect a little problem or two. If you try to thread them, use plenty of cutting/threading fluid. I use Tap Free II. I'm sure those studs are cast and somewhat fragile so go SLOW!

They do lower the value of what was a near perfect restoration. This is my first attempt at a restoration and its a shock to see vendors continue to offer such crappola just because they can. |

Re: Hood Emblem Pronlems
If you search the little slide out bins above the bolt bins at Ace hardware you might find some slip on clips or pal nuts that will fit tighter. The Pal Nuts are the stamped sheetmetal nuts Dan mentioned earlier.
