Re: 1966 tonneau cover availability?

I have the same cover on my truck. While the overall quality of the cover is pretty good, I found the clamp-on strut support plates that clamp to the bed rails to be poorly designed and flex too much against the gas struts when the cover is lowered to the point of the struts becoming detached from the pivot studs.

I made some adjustable crutches that fit between the back side of the support plates and the inside of the bed which eliminated the flexing.

Perhaps this cover was designed to fit a later bed and sold to also fit the 60-66. IDK.

I had the same trouble with my Short Step Side. No one make any over the counter tonneau covers for short steps, Truxedo custom made a cover for my truck, it cost a little more, has Velcro strips along side, rolls all the way up, adjustable tightness, I really like it.

Re: 1966 tonneau cover availability?

Allen, Truxedo makes a custom fit one, you send in the measurements and they make one that fits exactly. if I remember correct all I had to do was screw in the side rails with the Velcro on the inside of the bed. The Tonneau cover attaches to the front of the side rails and latches at the far end. There are some bows also in the cover to help hold it up if any weight settles on it, such as snow (no problem in FL) or lots of rain. The adjusters in the front adjust if there is any stretch, but with the Velcro the length of the cover it fits every bit as good as super tight snaps. And nothing drilled in the outside of your bed. The cost was close to $350.00 but worth it to me.
