Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
I'm not sure.
I started this to see and learn more about These trucks. My knowledge is in 67-72s Just bought it, haven't even received the truck yet I pulled the trigger because it is an original 454 camper special with buckets It doesn't look to be the prettiest truck out there. But I Thought it might be kind of rare, I've never seen one before Is your truck a super? |

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
Pretty sure the buckets and center console are out of a Blazer or Suburban. Never seen a camper special with anything but a bench seat.
The two tone break and trim are definitely not original to the year. Edit: Looking at the SPID it appears the bucket seats were an option. I have learned something new today. Last edited by maxx442; 02-26-2017 at 11:51 PM. |

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
Yea, wouldn't have bought it if buckets weren't listed on the spid
I learned something today too I searched 1974 Chevy truck brochure It appears the mouldings are incorrect. The positive is, two tone paint looks better with correct mouldings On these trucks |

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
Thanks on the spid.
Is your seat original? Curious about the pattern. It looks like it has double stitching. The buckets in this truck also have the double stitching. I don't know if they have been recovered or not Does your truck have a headliner? |

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
I do believe it is the original seat. It only had two owners before me, the man that bought it new and his son. Overall it appears to be a very original truck other than the open air cleaner. Its hard to see in that picture really but yes it does have a headliner.

The body lines with the trim and paint in the right areas look much better. The bucket seats along with the 454 are the only reason I bought it I would have passed otherwise I'm hoping more of these trucks will start being posted |

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
I guess there's not many of these out there?
I did a little more searching, I'm thinking the truck I got Will look like this. With the correct moulding. I believe this must be the stock color |

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
If you repaint it. The current 2 tone doesn't follow the body line like the original 2 tone should so the moldings wont fit.

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
Theres probably not a lot of these out there. I'm not sure what production was in 73 and 74 but I hardly see any around me locally. I wonder of they sprayed that white straight over the yellow on your truck, if so you might be able to get some of it off in the areas that shouldn't be white.

Interesting, it's only a 3/4 and a 1ton on here now I know the paint lines are incorrect. I doubt anything will correct it besides a paint job, and new moulding It was originally a two tone truck, I can't understand why would someone go through the effort to fill all the holes and put the color break in a different area |

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
What is the GMC trim level that is the equivalent to the Cheyenne Super?

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
These were built using untreated recycled steel, so they recycled the rust, too. Also, no fender drain holes till '78. So, these trucks rotted away in most paces. GM was replacing bedsides on these for years as a recall. Didn't help the rest of the truck.
GM did a great job with the moldings on these trucks, narrow and laid out nicely. I think they did a better job than in 69-72

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
I get the whole rust thing.
Being the top of the line model. I'd think there must be some out there! That were taken care of. And possibly garaged Here's another c20 that's now on eBay |

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
I think part of the problem with the recycled steel was that it didn't really matter how well the trucks were taken care of, they'd rust sitting in a garage. My papaw had a 76 shortbed and he sprayed it with a water hose and took a whole bedside out if it because it was apparently so eaten up with rust and that was when the truck was only a few years old.

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
I don't think it happened to all of them. Mine isn't a Super (it's a 73 C20 Cheyenne CS), but the only holes in mine are small, on the floorboards fairly near the front of the door. No holes in the fenders (not a ton of paint left though).

Re: Post your 73 or 74 Cheyenne Super
I'm sure it just depends on the quality of steel that each truck was individually made from. I'd say most of the trucks left today were the lucky ones that wound up with a relatively better batch of steel in them.
