Re: Gear ratio

Sure you counted right? I wouldn't think there's anyway that's right..but I've been wrong before...
Try the ol "rotate the driveshaft with one wheel off the ground trick" and see what you get..count how many revolutions the driveshaft turns to turn the tire 1 rotation

Re: Gear ratio

its not that I dont believe you, but maybe take a picture of what you are counting pinion teeth on. the pinion is really way back in there, I am not sure you can see it with the ring carrier installed. maybe with a mirror...

a pinion usually has 7-10 teeth on it, an 18 tooth pinion would be almost 5 inches in diameter, and with a 32 tooth ring it would be a 1.78 ratio like you are calculating. use a dot of paint to mark the ring tooth you start counting on to make sure you get the ring counted right.

the eaton rears with 32 teeth were 4.56, they had a 7 tooth pinion.

Re: Gear ratio

are you counting the diff side gears instead of the pinion gear maybe? the pinion is a ways back in the housing. google it for a few images. check the side of the ring gear, sometimes they have the ratio stamped in or the number of teeth per gear.

Re: Gear ratio

Being you said 32 tooth ring gear, I'm going to assume it's a 4.57 gearset, which is what came standard in the 3600 trucks.
