bed swap 87 to a 79
Has anyone successfully put a late 80's longbed on a 1979 longbed truck? I have an opportunity to purchase a '87 longbed fleetside bed to replace my K25 LWB. Both are dual tank trucks with fuel doors. Mine was a cat converter truck too.
It sounds like I will need to use the '87 fuel filler necks and hoses to correctly attach to existing '79 fuel tanks? So I don't need to get new tanks? Is there differences in the wiring/connectors for rear lights? I assume the mounting holes to the frame are the same? Anything else I should be aware of? |

Use the 87 filler necks, but there are a couple different diameter hoses and necks. Make sure you have the plastic filler neck brackets that screw to the bed side.
No need for new tanks. The wiring connectors are different. The mounting holes should be the same, but there is an oddball pattern out there. No big deal as you could drill 2 holes in the frame if needed to match up with the bed. Use the tailgate hardware specific to the tailgate. |
