Help with clutch sm465 vs nv4500
I went to install the clutch that came with my nv4500 into my k30 that i pulled a 465 out of i heard they were the same but the 465 clutch springs were loose and rattleing i pulled it and found this 6 puck clutch.. well there looks to be a machined recess in the flywheel so the stock nv4500 clutch does not sit flat on the flyweel. The 6 puck clutch is toast what are my options now i really dont want to dump much money in it because i think ill end up ls swapping it anyway. Do i have to buy a new flywheel or maybe just a new clutch like the one i removed? Any help appreciated

Take the flywheel to a machine shop and have it surfaced. Next, toss the disc with the pucs and use the other disc style.

It lookes to me like the flywheel was made with the groove in it though. Its abought 1/8 deep and has a chamfered edges not like the clutch wore a groove. Would it hurt to take off that much material to make it flat?

What kw said x2...it can either be surfaced or its junk..need to find out before you sink $$ into it..and use a nv4500 clutch..take it to a shop..they'll know what to do

Nope the chevy flywheels are not stepped. The grove is from the ceramic pads of the 'racing' disc cutting into the surface

I checked Advance Auto, and they have a 88 dollar flywheel. 20% off coupons are easy to find for AA, which gets you close to $70. Last edited by kipps; 05-23-2017 at 01:07 AM. |

Re: Help with clutch sm465 vs nv4500
The clutches i have are not great but the one has some meat left i just wanted to run it for a wile with the 6.2 to see how i liked it so i didnt want to dump out to much money cause ill most likely swap it out in the near future but thanks for the heads up on the flywheel from advanced ill check that out its cheap enough i might just buy one cheapest i found was like $114 but if im gona put on a new flywheel im not gona run an old ****ty clutch so it pushed it over what i wanted to spend it i can get a flywheel for under $100 ill just order a new clutch too and do it right.
