IS this an automatic?
I don't know if this is an automatic or three speed. I would love for it to be automatic. I can't pull the handle backwards at all.

If it was a column shift manual, it wouldn't have that gear selector pointer. Also, there would be more linkage attachment locations available. Yours only has the one. . This thread might help some: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=425991

Re: IS this an automatic?
Well that seems like great news. I was going to order an ididit column. Would this column work with my 4l60E shift pattern then?

Re: IS this an automatic?
It will work, but without reworking the column you likely won't be able to manually shift into 1st gear.

Re: IS this an automatic?
Captianfab, do you really need to manually shift into first, it is just going to be a fun driver, I never use Manuel 1st unless I'm either in the Colorado mountains or have a 4x4 to which neither will this truck be doing. Opinions?

Re: IS this an automatic?
When you hook it all up you need to know where drive will be. Then just put it in drive and go. I have a 1961 impala with a pig trans. I am putting a th 350 in it now. So i know exactly what to do.

Re: IS this an automatic?
No, you don't have to be able to manually shift into 1st. Just making you aware of the results of using that column as it is.

Re: IS this an automatic?
That is for a power guide transmission. You may be able to convert your columb to a three speed automatic by using a shift tube out of a 67 to 72 columb that is from a three speed automatic. It will need to be modified some, shortened. The newer columns are much easier to find. Plan to try this but have not done yet to see changes needed.

Re: IS this an automatic?
An original Powerglide column will work with a 3 speed auto trans and still be able to shift into 1st. Granted some of that ability may be due to a worn column from 50+ years of use.
