Mirror seach for 54 3100

I tried the drop arm peep mirrors but they are too small and the passenger side is virtually useless for the reason listed below. Been searching for a set of door mirrors other than the universal types. I saw at least one AD with something that looks like this:

http://www.goodmarkindustries.com/p-...45-410-81.aspx

These look like they would work and fold if i get too close to the garage door. I am concerned the mount curvature would be hard to fit the 54 doors. Both My new replacement eyeballs are somewhat problematic when it comes to small mirrors ( or depth perception) so ergonomics must trump authenticity. It would also be nice if i can mount them without pulling the door glass.

Comments and recommendations welcome

I too have seen at least one and maybe two AD trucks with the mirrors you have referenced. I know one is on this site but I can't find it as yet. I believe it is a Texas guy and the truck is setting in the yard next to a modular home. There is an AD truck here in my home town that is sitting on a C10 frame that has these mirrors on it.

I don't see mounting as a problem but I don't have a clue if the glass needs to be removed. I plan to have a set of these mirrors on my '54, if I ever find the time to get started. Clay

those mirrors are for the square body trucks..not sure how close they would fit the AD trucks.....but you don't have to pull any glass to mount...you drill the holes and pop in the plastic threaded inserts...these mirrors factory installed have a brace inside the door...after market replacements don't have the brace...

well it just dawned on me I had one of those mirrors in the parts pile...surprised me at how well it fit the AD door contour...but where I'm holding it is about as high as it can go....the curve of the door to the beltline prevents it from sealing the gap...just holding it and looking at it it may be fine on drivers side but may be to low for pass side....

Thanks EXACTLY the info i needed. Two thumbs up for Mongo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess i'm back to square one. I dislike Those u shaped ones that attach above and below the window but seems like only ones that will provide a big enough view on each side. Still looking.

How about some of those new-fangled "there's-a-car-in-my-blind-spot" detectors like on my wife's Acadia?!

Who needs side mirrors when you have technology?!

Now you have done it.

Our new Mazda CX-9 will not allow you to lane drift and automatically steers you back to center lane. Even with the turn signal on it will not allow you to turn into an adjacent car. Furthermore, you can't back up or drive into another car. Car detects objects and just stops itself. With the newfangled Cruise control on it is possible to drive long distances without using the brake or gas if the radar is locked onto a car in front of you. Went over 40 miles thru 20 and 25 MPH zones robotically. Only coming to a complete stop interrupts the auto-pilots. All this while everything (including Navigation instructions) are displayed thru the the windshield.

And then theres the screaming voice and red flashing warnings in your face on the windshield. The "WARNING RED LIGHT CAMERA AHEAD!!!!' is tolerable, the "WASH YOUR WINDSHIELD NOW!!!" one no so much..

Makes you wonder if napping while at the wheel is possible.

Just want usable mirrors on my AD.

Thanks for posting the pictures. As I said, I am going to use this type mirror on my '54. I do not want the chrome finish so extending the post/tube from the mirror to the mount on the passenger side and paint it should not be an issue. Again, thanks for the pictures. Clay
