Re: Wanted Stock rear end
Hi, thanks for replying. I have a 4 speed. I have to look at the numbers on the transmission.I really didn't want to change the transmission. The rear would be easier for me to change. Im running 3200 rpm at 65mph. If I can bring my rpm down to 2700 at that speed that would be great.

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
Actually, you want a higher gear set like 3:23 or 3:07 but we know what you meant. The stock one's are 3:90.
My 59 runs a 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd rear axle. Very easy modifications required to get it installed. It also has 4x4 axles in it to retain the 6 bolt rims. It runs 70mph at around 2300 rpm as nicely as you'd want it! Merry Christmas

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
Hi, exactly what I meant. If I can get a rear with those ratios that would be great. I wish they sold a gear set for a dana 45. Does anyone know of a junk yard for these old trucks maybe they may have an old rear with that gearing or I can get a rear that I can have rebuilt with a good ratio, I dont care if its a posi.traction either.

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
I had to do some homework, you are correct, the Dana 45 has no replacement ring and pinion options. Apparently it was an option back then. The other stock axel was the ho33, which also was a 3.90 but it looks like 3.38 are available.

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
If I can get a ho33 with 6 lug and 338 gears that would be a home run. Would my 6 lug axles fit in a ho33 and would an ho33 come with 6 lugs?

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
Ho33 is what I have, I think it was the common corporate axel, and they are not really a sought after rear. They are 6 lug and supposed to be tough as long as your not putting to much horse power through them. I have a basic crate 350/700r4 and I've done plenty of burn outs but it doesn't have great traction. I would think you could find one, but I think they were all 3.90. You would need to re gear it to 3.38. There might be more a cost effective way to achieve your goal than the ho33.

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
Nice truck! I see why you want the axel as opposed to the trans, looks pretty original. Yeah, burn outs aren't an issue! Mine had 235/3 on the tree when I got it. 50mph was about all I felt comfortable pushing up to. I sold that set up last year and did the 350/700r4 swap.

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
Dave Ny, is going to see if he has one. I have gotten it up to 65 but it was screaming at 3100 or more rpms. I wanted to take it up to Lake George Car show next year. Its about 5 hours away. I like it better then my vette. It has more character.

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
I hope DaveNY has one for you. There may be other ratios, I just did a quick search and only came up with 3.38. I'm just guessing on your tire size (235/75/15 are about 28.5" tall), but that set up would have you cruising 65 at 2590 rpm. These trucks certainly have character, definitely more than a 2001 convertible (if your handle reflects the Vette), no offense intended.

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
DaveNY, sent me pictures of the rear he has. We are both trying to find out the type or where on the rear we can find the model and ratio. thanks Anthonyhttp://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/attachment.php?attachmentid=1721502&stc=1&d=1514414850http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/attachment.php?attachmentid=1721503&stc=1&d=1514414850http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/attachment.php?attachmentid=1721504&stc=1&d=1514414850

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
Looks like mine, ho33. 3.90 is what they came with. You can do the old "Jack the truck up, spin the wheel 2 revolutions and count how many revolutions the drive shaft does" trick to check the ratio if there is no tag. I'm sure you can Google that trick and get a better explanation.

Re: Wanted Stock rear end
Looks like the stock 55T rear end to me.
I swapped the 3.90 to 3.38 using a new pinion and ring gear in my 59. https://www.yukongear.com/productdet...spx?ProdID=823 My 59 has the stock 235 and 3 speed column manual trans. The rear end swap made 60 mph a lot more comfortable.
