C36: A Truckers truck!
Long time lurker, first time poster. I recently started truck driving and I've been driving out of different yards, so I needed to be portable. I bought me a 2013 28' travel trailer and my '14 Ram didn't like pulling it much so I set off on a 3/4-1 ton truck. I was gonna get a 2000 Chevy crew cab 2ws 1 ton for $700 like I wanted, but my Dad beat me to the deal so I found me a truck I liked better.
I am picking up a 1984 C30 diesel crew cab dually. I haven't taken delivery yet because the weather has been bad but soon... but anyways the truck has sat for 15 years or so, by what I'm told, and just needs glow plugs and batteries. I was skeptical so I made the 150 mile drive to check it out. It was literally love at first site. The previous owner was a truck driver before he passed away, My dad drove, and now I drive so its a sentimental truck to both me and the daughter that owns it now. Has a Realistic CB fone, dual bench seats, nearly perfect bed, and very little rust/dents based off a quick inspection. 6.2 diesel, automatic, 2wd, DRW. Stoked to get it home soon, hopefully before Jan 1. Last edited by outcast99; 12-27-2017 at 04:41 AM. |

Re: C36: A Truckers truck!
Sorry it’s been a few days since I said I’d upload more. I drive truck so I don’t always get a chance to get on here. So yesterday I got into the rear down phase. And almost got it to start. Both big steps! Luckily no major floor board rust, I’ll be able to undercoat and put carpet back in soon as I get new door seals and window seals.

Cool CB phone. I like the truck. Looks like you're getting it cleaned up too. What is necessitating the teardown?

Re: C36: A Truckers truck!
Well it sat for a long time in the washington wetness, the door and glass seals have let go so the carpet is ruined along with the padding. Knowing that, I figured the floorboards would be rusted through. Stripped it down to confirm they are rusted but only surface. Now I'm gonna get seals, undercoat, padding, and carpet, redo the seats (maybe buckets in front), and the headliner. This next check i'm getting batteries, oil change, flush the fluids... Lot of work!

Re: C36: A Truckers truck!
Nice start on getting this truck back on the road.
Any changes/modifications to the truck or just get it fixed up and on the road?

Re: C36: A Truckers truck!
Huge news! Little persuasion and a jump starter got the old girl running yesterday! Oh it was such a great feeling hearing the diesel rattle to life. Immediately after starting it, almost sounded like a rod knock but after inspection I found the upper ac compressor bracket broken and hitting the intake. Yanked it off and now it sounds awesome! Added 3 qts of ATF and ram it through the gears. This of course prompted me to drive it around the yard... ya I was sitting on a milk crate, and ya I don’t know the fuel level.// by t it felt so good to drive it around the circle driveway! ...then it ran out of fuel. Put 5 gallons in , stifled my excitement and put her away for the night.

Re: C36: A Truckers truck!
Spent a lot of time today on the floor, and removed running boards also. Scuffed, acetone washed, wiped and undercoated

Re: C36: A Truckers truck!
Went and got some new control arms for the ol girl tonight, made by So Low Street Suspension in Troutdale, OR.
Hopefully they'll work out, he tossed in some KYB Gas shocks also, along with drop springs. Just need to figure out the rear drop now. Managed to upload pics from when I drove it around a bit for more glam shots haha |

Re: C36: A Truckers truck!
Cool truck! For the leaking cab, you might want to inspect the seam sealer under the cowl. I’ve had a couple of trucks that leaked there.
