raised bed floor question bagged truck
i'm getting to the point of mounting my new fleetside bed on my 63'. this is my first c10 build so i was wondering from anyone thats raised their wood bed floor how many cross sills are you using? my truck is c-notched and bagged so i wasn't sure if i could just use the front two and just the rear sill.
I looked around on here but most pictures are down and didn't see much info on my specific question |

Re: raised bed floor question bagged truck
How much do you plan to raise it? When I did my 65 it had a c-notch and when aired out it just missed hitting the bed floor by a hair. So I added a pair of traction bar snubbers for stops and used the floor as it was.

Re: raised bed floor question bagged truck
notch is 8'' so i'll have to raise quite a bit. need to get cross sills ordered to get bed bolted together and on before I get to that point. I just didn't want to order all 5 cross sills if I only need to use 3 total

Re: raised bed floor question bagged truck
Raising the bed that high, it might be better to build a frame structure to mount to the cross sills/inner bed sides. That's what I did for my friend's bed when he did a step notch like yours similar to this one.

Re: raised bed floor question bagged truck
did you mock the bed up on the oem sills to get the bed placed in the right spot first. So it sits even and with all body lines lined up with cab then just build up off that?
I was thinking use the oem front two sill and the rear sill of course. then just do like you did and built a 1x1 tube frame as high as it needed to be but keep the stock sills to make sure it sits as factory and would give some lower structure. unless i'm missing something. the truck was apart when I bought it and never put one together |

Re: raised bed floor question bagged truck
Yes, we had to mock up the bed on the chassis a few dozen times while fabricating the bed floor structure. We mounted the bed cross sills directly to the bed (I noted ended up raising the bed floor 1 inch, which I raised my bed floor). I cut several .75 inch thick aluminum blocks and attached them to the chassis pedestals to replace the thickness of the bed wood ...if that makes sense.

Here is mine. Been trying to clean it up a bit. Stay tuned! Should appear mostly stock when I’m done. Minus the fact that it’s slightly shallower than stock.
