I ask this question in the paint and body section sometime back everybody wanted to tell me how to paint my truck but never got an answer on the amount after painting the top white I realize the gallon of paint I bought for the rest of the truck will not be enough I am using concept by PPG Single stageI am giving the truck for coats inside and outside of the fleet side bed the rest of the cab doors fenders wheel tubs tailgate hood etc. looking for someone who has done the same and how much material they used thanks Doug

Re: How much paint?

I have painted the outside of my LWB 1982 pickup with 2 coats of acrylic enamel paint and used 5 quarts plus thinner and hardener. A quart should do the inside and have some left over. I suspect that amount will work for you as well.

Re: How much paint?

I don't have the answer you are looking for but just a reminder that there is a difference in the gallons of your color you buy versus the sprayable gallons you will end up with after hardener and reducer is added.

Re: How much paint?

Are you really applying four coats? If so why? Two should be fine. A gallon and a half should be more than enough for normal application.

Re: How much paint?

Yes you're right captain a gallon of color after you reduced it and add Hardner you end up with a gallon and 3/4 of sprayable paint I used a quart of color to do the top it is starting to look more like 2 gallons of color to do the rest of the truck and the reason I give it for coats of paint is after Color sanding and buffing I still have plenty of material left on the truck with only two coats you run a chance of a sand through I have not painted a truck of this size and don't want to take a chance of running out of paint I would rather have a little left overif I have to buy more paint before I am done then I have a problem with the color match hoping there was someone else out there that had done the same thing and how much material they used

I sent a message to Alan Hobbs to see if he can help you out with an answer to your question.

Thank you all for your advice I worked at a job off and on for over 15 years that specialized in sports cars a jaguar single stage PPG with four coats would take 2 gallons an Austin Healey or a Morgan would take a gallon and a half I am just having a hard time getting my head around the size of these trucks I painted A 37 ford a few years ago for a guy black single stage took a gallon and a half I believe I will buy 2 gallons of color I should have some left over if I ever have to Touch it up thanks again Doug
