New blower motor

Looking to get a new blower motor for my 79 stepside. Frame off show truck. I want to get an ac delco. Couple to choose from. The main two are with ac and without ac. Ac is like $100 where non ac is about $50. I have ac but not hooked up. What is the difference? Do i need the ac fan?

Re: New blower motor

I think a/c blowers and a/c control head operate a little different. If you have a factory a/c system I would buy the correct one. Im not sure on the technical differences though

Re: New blower motor

I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that there is no off position for non-AC trucks, at least that is how it is on my 78. The fan always runs. I would think the blower motor itself wouldn't be different. I'll look at my wiring diagrams tonight and see if I can come up with something. It could be a physical difference based on space constraints. I would go with the AC one though in any case.

Re: New blower motor

LMC truck shows the same part number for both for 79 for some cases There are some differences that have to do with vent hole diameter that could be the difference. Other than that, the difference is in the resistor block which is what I would expect. Also the FAN sizes are different is some cases.

Isn’t the resistor block on the heater box?

It is out on the duct in the engine compartment with the blower motor. Oh and the wiring diagram doesn't show anything difference for AC vs non-AC.

Re: New blower motor

Have you checked Rock Auto? There are several different ACD blower motors available. The descriptions may help you. If you buy one there, remember to use their 5% discount code - google it to find the current code.
