Stock tailgate 69 Blazer

I've seen two 69 Blazer's recently for sale and the tailgate is plain, no Chevrolet stamped into the tailgate. Was this stock, did they not come with that for that year?

Re: Stock tailgate 69 Blazer

The grille is the same way. You can buy aftermarket ones for 69-70 with no "CHEVROLET" scrip. The plain tailgate and grille look real goofy IMO, but are cheaper.

I guess you could always cut out your stock gate letter section and weld it into the new gate... wouldnt be fun but possible

Yep that would work too... and maybe thats what those gates were? Not sure if the gates that came with the bands were lettered underneath?
Maybe they took off the bands and plugged the holes and made it nice and smooth?

Re: Stock tailgate 69 Blazer

Repro were blank only
GM would never go through that much$$ trouble to manufacture a separate gate for tailgate bands.

So you know for sure the oe banded tailgates were lettered underneath?
GM had at least 2 different gates... Chev and GMC... so a third isnt a stretch...

Yes I am 100% positive
And the GMC gate would be the other gate, and they too had a tailgate band offered in upgraded trim options
I can tell you with 100% knowledge that all plain, smooth gates are reproduction

Re: Stock tailgate 69 Blazer

Gotcha, no pissing match on my end.
I started with these trucks over 30 yrs ago as a kid and got to watch the reproduction market come into play with them. My family was into them heavily and I'm the last and youngest of six who still does it.
