Closed knuckle shaft won’t come out

66 K20. I’m not sure what I can be doing wrong here. It clearly will not fit through the hole

Do you have a service manual, if not, will look up for you.
Will take photo of instruction and post.

Re: Closed knuckle shaft won’t come out

I did this about a year ago and don't remember this problem. A couple of questions;
Are the wheels in the straight ahead direction? They look turned in your pictures, and I don't think axles will come out if turned.
Is that an HD or regular 44? Looks different than mine, but might just be angle of picture.

I sort of answered this in the other post about brakes, but its an HD. Several things are different from what is posted in the factory service manual. Last night I finally found a post on a Dodge forum that said the spicer 44HDF axle shafts won't fit out the hole, you have to split the knuckle.

That would explain it. Thought something looked different. Had a 44HD in a Power Wagon back in the 70's, but never pulled the axles in that one and haven't seen an HD since then.
Glad you figured it out, and able to share solution.

Les,

I've got one and according to it, it should pull right out now. I've found from searching online that apparently that's not the case with the d44hdf, you have to split the knuckle to remove the axle shafts. Thanks for your offer though.
