1959 235 fuel pump question
Hi, I have a 1959 3100 with a 235 engine with an original type of fuel pump. The pump keeps weeping fuel. I tightened up on the screws and it doesn't stop the weeping of fuel. I don't run a vacuum line to the wipers as my wipers are electric now. I was thinking of running a conventional mechanical fuel pump such as the one in the picture to the left.Has anyone done this and would this pump work?

Re: 1959 235 fuel pump question
This is the recommended pump. This pump has a higher working fuel pressure. Its also a carter. If I had to recommend one, it would be this one or the attached airtex. That Delphi is also on the list as a direct fit, so if you need to get that from Autozone, it would suit your needs. Keep in mind you may have to add a few fittings depending on thread sizes.

Re: 1959 235 fuel pump question
It looks like the one you have now is a dual action for pumping fuel and generating vacuum. You could probably rebuild it. I had a fuel pump like the first one you pictured, looks like it is pressed together. I thought it was bad so I went to Napa and got a replacement. The new one looks like the second one pictured, bolted together. The bolted together one looks like the one in the manual and it can be serviced if it ever develops a problem.
