Neutral safety switch
where do i find the neutral safety switch on a 85 700R4 K10. The book I have says at the bottom of the steering column, the only switch there is a single two wire switch for the back-up lights, the only wires I find down there are attached to a small 4 pole plug and are pink/blk, blue, green, gray. see attached photo
the diagram I have doesn't show these colors on a 4 pole plug. HELP. |

Re: Neutral safety switch
Ok here is the neutral safety switch.
It is the 1/2 round one. Put your thing in park then drop the steering shaft. There are two clips on the side that slide into a recess in the colum. Lift one up with a screwdriver then pop it up and the other side will come up enough to get the thing off. Disconnect the connections being careful not to pull the wires. The thing has a tab in it which should be at park. Compare the old location to the new location matching them up so they are close. Connect your wires then lower the thing wiggling it so the tab goes into the steering column slot then pop it down till it snaps. Now turn the key to the run position and shift into reverse and your backup lights should come on if not the thing has adjustment in it and you need to reach up there and push on the left or right side moving the center on those teeth till your backup lights come on. Turn the key off and then slap your steering shaft up bolt it up and the old girl should fire right up. If not drop the column and change out the ignition module also shown. I had a flat spot on the starter which had the thing working when dropped but would crank one or twice then not crank hence the old starter in the picture.

Re: Neutral safety switch
and to help drom the column down more loosen the 2 nuts under the brake booster in the engine bay at firewall on the half moon clamp . then do the 2 nuts under the dash after you remove the plastic trim and metal trim section .
if auto trans and yours looks like it . . . UN-CLIP THE SHIFT INDICATOR or you will break something .
