Driveshaft length
I have a 4l60e in my 63 longbed. Does anybody know what length one piece driveshaft I would need? I can go out and measure it but it's cold and crappy here so I figured I'd ask before I subject myself to going outside.
It's only like 35° I'm just a giant wuss. |

Re: Driveshaft length
I think you should wait until it gets cold out!
Likely best to measure yourself. Then you know it’s correct. |

Re: Driveshaft length
Yea, I know I'll end up crawling under it in the morning when it's supposed to be in the high teens. I like to do these things at the worst possible times

Re: Driveshaft length
Just one of the small pleasures truck ownership brings!
You should try replacing a block heater at 40 below. I had to do that once. |

Re: Driveshaft length
It was the cold and snow that drove us west 10 years ago when I retired.
To a rain forest atmosphere. Rare snow, temps usually 35-50F in the winter. Tops out at 85F in the summer. I’ll listen for your scream in the morning when you get down on that cold, cold ground!LOL! |

Some heat is good!
You’ll live longer for one thing. Is this the museum you’re talking about. https://www.barbermuseum.org/ |

Re: Driveshaft length
Not a motorcycle guy but do like old iron of all kinds.
Went to this museum in ‘91 on our first tour of New Zealand. https://www.southwardcarmuseum.co.nz/ Lots of 2,3 and 4 wheel stuff there. And in the ‘old country’ where I worked for 40 years we had this place.https://reynoldsmuseum.ca/ |

Re: Driveshaft length
I like cars and bikes, I do bikes for a living and cars/trucks for a hobby. That being said, you can own 15 or 20 motorcycles and still look relatively normal to the outside world. They will fit in the house if you have to. If you have 15 or 20 old cars, there is no hiding that. If you have both, you just don't care like me

I got a buddy that has a 40x100 shop that is full of bikes. And 40 acres of old iron too. 80 plus cars and trucks plus sheds of motors, heads intakes etc. He’s a former car mechanic turned bike mechanic. Injured thumbs while skiing. Your driveshaft is quite long. Are you gonna get a custom built one. Something near 4 inch. You might have interference issues on the trailing arm. If you’re coil sprung that is. |

Re: Driveshaft length
The driveshaft measured out to 64" center to center of the U-joints. Small block in the stock location with a 4l60e in a longbed. This would make a good sticky with different lengths for different combos guys are running.
