Re: Newbie need help

hello there...sorry to tell you that your trifive bell wont directly bolt to your truck crossmember...the truck uses mounts that are C shaped that sits on top of crossmember with another cushion from the under side...55-57 mounts to the outer edges of the bell housing and don't sit on a crossmember...they are just bolted to brackets on the inside of frame...and also it wont work with your hydraulic clutch...if that's what your still using...but anything can be modified to work with a bit off effort and ingenuity. v8 hydraulic clutch bellhousings are getting harder to find, but still out there. or you can do like I did back in the day on my 60 when I ran a manual..i took the brake /clutch pedal/linkage assembly and bell housing from a 63-66truck..requires cutting hole in floor for clutch rod tho....good luck on your project and with all the knowledge here on this site..you will get it sorted out.

Re: Newbie need help

Thank you for the info so far. I am mocking the engine with the 63-66 front mounts with a one inch spacer to reach the frame. That seemed to fit teal good, this motor I bought came with this BH set up. I put a 4-drum power brake booster with hydraulic clutch from CPP. So I planned on using this BH with one of those Novak hcrc clutch adaptors. This would put clutch on drivers side. I was hoping to mount that BH to frame, so Muncie just hangs in midair. I have not mocked motor with BH on, and thought it was for trucks. I was hoping the motor will end up above the original cross member, and I can fan something up to mount it. Your thoughts. Thank you. Ben

Re: Newbie need help

If you are going to use the Novak hydraulic slave conversion, you just need a '63-'72 truck bellhousing. If you use the '67-'72 small block engine mount brackets, you will need no more than a 1/4" thick spacer on top of the frame.

Re: Newbie need help

what trans are you using? I think 68 up tk bell-housings have a 5" center hole, the 63-67 had a 4 7/8" hole. There is a ring you can use with the small bearing retainer trans on the later bell.
