2000 corvette 4L60E question
I have a 4L60E from a 2000 vette that I wish to put in my 70 c10. As you know 2000 vettes did not use a tailshaft housing, so I bought one, with a vss, or so I thought. Now my mechanic is asking me how the vss connects to the tailshaft. I don’t have a friggin clue, so I turn to you. How do I make a 2000 vette 4L60 work in a c10?

Re: 2000 corvette 4L60E question
The VSS is installed into the transmission case...not anywhere near the tailshaft...but you have bigger challenges ahead of you.
2000 Corvettes use a torque tube drive with the trans mounted directly to the differential unit that is solidly to the rear of the Corvette chassis. The rear end is fully independent, not a live axle as is in a C-10. Unless you intend to do a major rear chassis rework to install the entire rear axle assembly from a Corvette you would be better to sell the Corvette trans and source a standard rear 2 wheel drive trans like a 4L60e or better still a 4L80e. Both will require an electronic trans controller. You could also look at a T700R4 but it should receive a major rebuild and upgrade before you install it...

Re: 2000 corvette 4L60E question
To fit that vette trans in he would have had to install a new front bell housing assembly, new pump, new output shaft and extension housing....
Oh well...the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor ) simply needs either a digital style speedo or a convertor.... Maybe the problem is the trans installed no longer supports the VSS....hence his asking "How do I get a VSS to connect to the tailshaft?) The VSS plugs into the extension housing and fits close to a reluctor wheel on the outout shaft... See the attached pic...it shows a 4WD unit, but 2WD unit is similar... Good luck

Re: 2000 corvette 4L60E question
Yeah, you need to post up some pictures of that. The rear of the Vette trans is not compatible with just bolting on a tail housing from a non-Vette transmission.

Re: 2000 corvette 4L60E question
I'm no expert but I think you need a passenger car trans from a B body or F body, but the Y body Corvette is very different.
Some trans, like the 4L80E, do not have a physical pickup for the speedo at all. Then you need to run a little computerizeds box that spins the cable for you.

Re: 2000 corvette 4L60E question
Without repeating myself...please review my first post response....
To install the "vette trans" you would need to install the entire rear trans axle and torque tube system from a Corvette....back halving the chassis etc... Much simpler to grab a 4l60E out of say a 2001 era Chevy or GMC 2wd pickup and install that....you will need a trans controller, but you would need one for the vette anyways...How were you thinking you would control the vette trans?.... What did the guy doing the work for you actually do to the trans to get it "in the truck"...

Re: 2000 corvette 4L60E question
As far as I know it isn't possible to convert a vette trans for use with a driveshaft. You can bolt a LT style bell housing to the front, but the rear is incompatible with any of the tailshaft housings. Not only is the bolt pattern completely different, the area between the trans and the differential on the vette trans is dry, the trans even has a water drain slot cast into it. Unless someone has come up with some really elaborate adapter plate the only way to use a vette trans in another vehicle is to use the getrag diff along with it.

Re: 2000 corvette 4L60E question
he just bolted on the tail shaft housing that I bought, it’s going behind a 401 nailhead. So I bought the bell housing and special flywheel, I even bought a firewall mounted TPS.

Re: 2000 corvette 4L60E question
I would be interested in what tailshaft housing you bought, if someone is now making a conversion housing that would make vette transmissions alot more worthwhile.

Re: 2000 corvette 4L60E question
Its actually more than just the tail housing...
The Corvette housing rear bulkhead has multiple metal clad seal bores and O ring lands to seal the transmission to the differential housing.. There is a bore where the trans seal and differential seals are held and a thin O ring around the perimeter to seal the trans fluid inside the housing. See pics....the Corvette 4L60e is "similar" but not the same as a "normal" 4L60e...
