Holley woes

I have a holley 1850 on my 81 and twice now it has gone into mass flooding once from the back bowls and once from the front I turned the float all the way down to stop it both times and then readjusted. I have had alot of holley carbs and never had this type of problem the filter looks clean going in I have not pulled the bowls yet but maybe this weekend I will get to that. I guess my question is what would you guys start with (other than a new carb ) ?

your not running any type of hi-po fuel pump are ya ?
the flaots could also be heavy- as in filled with fuel-as in leaking. the styrofill one(black foam) get saturated and get heavy. Most older 1850's are brass but they can leak also.

Just a few of the many troubles it might be .
