Intake headers LS 6.0 to sm 465 1970 gmc

Good evening everyone,

I've run into a clearance problem involving my exhaust headers with bolting an LS 6.0 to an SM 465 transmission. I was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem or knows of some block hugger type manifolds that they've used in the past on prior projects.

The Gen 1 exhaust manifolds, like the ones from the sbc 350, would be perfect as they're a tight fit to the block. I found a pair of Hedman 68520 but they protrude out 4.5 inches out past the frame.

I also tried a pair of Hedman 45660 headers but was informed after I tried installing them were for hydraulic clutches setups, not manual clutches.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated,

Thank you and Merry Christmas,

double

i used highly modified headers for a LS hummer...ls3 or tbss manifolds might work

What transmission were you running with those headers?

I don’t have the manual but...I used Sanderson CSLS1 shortie headers. They work well

If those would work I'd install them in a heart beat lol. Unfortunately my clutch fork and linkage is getting in the way of the collector =( but thank you for your help, I appreciate it.

Those look like the Hedman ones i tried. I wish they would've worked because they are a good quality header. Downfall is the clutch fork is getting in the way of the collector =(. I appreciate your help my man, thank you!

I also have a manual clutch...with linkage, clutch fork and all...
The hummer headers drop straight down at the back cylinder and the turn back...they'll clear all the linkage.....would I recommend you try em? Nope...had to do a good bit of modifying
The headman claim they'd fit fit but they wouldn't clear the linkage..

My apologizes my man.

So how much modifying did you have to do? I've never installed exhaust headers before so in my mind they're suppose to fit like a drop in; hassle free and all that stuff.

Yea I tried those hedman ones as well and scratched my head thinking I was going crazy because im pretty good at putting the square block in the square block and those headers WEREN'T fitting at all. That's when I got on the phone with someone and they said yeeha those are for manual transmissions with hydraulic clutches.

Mine is on a 5.3 but i Used speed engineering ram horns which dropped straight down and missed all of the linkage.

Thank you, those speed engineering ones that drop down the middle worked PERFECTLY.
I didn't have to make any mods or fabs. Took me a beer to install, so I drank 5 more looking at all that hard work .

Now its time for in coils, intake manifold, the software so I can blow something up ^____^

Thankyou everyone for your info and experience on from all of your projects. I greatly appreciate it!

No apologies needed.....had to cut the collectors off and turn them....had to notch frame...had to do some tweaking as well....I wouldn't recommend doing what I had to do...try the ls3 or tbss manis and see what you got...or go shorty headers....

I used f-body manifolds on my C10, cleared the SM465 hydro linkage.

Malibu-
Your manifolds look like this correct? Help me out with what you have for a linkage - hydraulic kit or the old GM Z-bar with a ball mounted on the LS?

Re: Intake headers LS 6.0 to sm 465 1970 gmc

Here's some pics of one. It might be what you need. My truck has the factory hydro setup being an 86. Occupies about the same space as the manual linkage.

Easy to find these used.

Re: Intake headers LS 6.0 to sm 465 1970 gmc

I used Hooker street rod shorties on my swap, along with a set of stainless down tubes (Speed way motors, Summit,Jegs). All of the mechanical linkage will clear, but you need a bracket for the block pivot ball. My engine , is set 1 inch forward , from I-6 spot, & runs a 55-57 bell housing. On the headers, you will need aftermarket wires & sleeves. Longhorn
