56 gmc grill differences

So I recently bought a 56 GMC. St least that’s what the tag says anyway but the front end is different than what I see on other 56 GMC trucks. First off my grill more resembles a Chevy. It’s not the big mustache looking grill you see othe GMCs with. Secondly My hood doesn’t have the indent where the GMC emblem sets. Why the difference? Or is mine some pieced together homemade hybrid!
I’ll post a pic of my front end and a pic of one I pulled off the web so you can better understand what I’m talking about.

Everything points to GMC as far as dash and VIN.

Re: 56 gmc grill differences

I suppose anything is possible. It does just have one layer of paint which all matches. With the exception of the doors which are white. Front clip, cab and bed are all the same. I did find a couple pics of other GMCs that look like mine. I was just wondering why the differences, hoping someone might know.

Re: 56 gmc grill differences

you could send the vin to the gmheritage center and maybe they could tell you what the truck started life as.

Re: 56 gmc grill differences

Its a 56 GMC Fleet Truck that someone put a 56 Chevy Pickup Grille in it . You can see the grille does not fit very well in the fender opening. It should have had one of the wire mesh fleet grilles. The GMC hood emblem is original as is the flat "fleet" style front bumper . Pretty rare truck that has had a Chevy grille fitted to it.

Good idea. Always nice to verify . I think there is a pickup like this but black on one of the online truck sites.

Ahh that explains the number on the bed just above the step. The guy I purchased it from had no idea. He pulled it out of a field where it’s supposedly been sitting for 25 yrs. sure looks like it has

I’m guessing this is the grill you are referring to. Probably super hard to find. Or equally as hard as finding the fancy mustache looking on is. Which I did find but it costs more than the truck did lol
