adhesive removal

I started removing the old door seals. I cut away as much as I could but there is a ton of adhesive and seal still stuck to the door frame. I've been scraping away, then tried heating it up with a heat gun but that didn't work. Any good tricks to removing this stuff?

Sometimes wd40 works....3M also makes a adhesive remover

I always start with the most "gentle solvent" first. Mineral spirits or as Mongo said, wd40. Failing that, I move up proceeding carefully with gasoline or naptha. The latter two typically don't strip off paint but you need to be wary of that as you move up to more agressive solvents. The solvents of last resort for me are acetone and lacquer thinner which will remove paint, especially enamel. I've been where you are a couple of times. In one case I removed the old stuff with a wire wheel and repainted the jambs and in the other I used the newer push on weatherstrip and decided the old leftovers were sufficiently hidden underneath so as not to be too obvious.

sometimes that stuff will pop or chip off when its cold.

Thanks guys! I am blasting the whole cab down to bare metal so not worried about the paint.

Well...that changes everything....blasting will remove the adhesive for you...

Blasting wasn't working very well which surprised me. I'm not using a very aggressive grit

Auto body paint stores sell a rubber wheel that inserts into a drill chuck. It won't damage the paint and it is very effective in removing the old glue and stickum from painted surfaces. I used it to remove the old glue from the K2500 door/ side moldings that deteriorated badly. It took about three charges on my cordless drill to finish the job. I'd take a pic of it but I have misplaced it for the moment.

I assume then your doing your own blasting....my small home blaster isn't something I'd want to do a whole truck with?..its just to slow...so I took mine to a commercial blaster...they did a great job for the most part...but even their grit wouldnt remove undercoating,bondo,or rubber...
You might try more aggressive grit though...or use a flapper wheel on a grinder....or get some Rolex discs and use on a air grinder..
