1986 C20 Dually conversion

Hello,

I am currently playing with a 1986 C/20 and am interested in converting it to a dually. I have all parts needed except for the bed and or fenders. I'm in Maine and am finding it difficult to locate the bed and or fenders in this area. I am hoping someone can be of help. I have attached pictures of what it was four months ago and what is it now. I call her HOBO.

Thanks!!

Re: 1986 C20 Dually conversion

Any reason for the dually conversion?....do you also have the dually axle?its different from a c&c dual wheel axle.......dually fenders can be added to your bed with some work...its been done by members here.....in your area its probably impossible to find much....in my area I know where pe 4-5 dually beds are now...

Re: 1986 C20 Dually conversion

Hi Greg,

The reason is that I like the square body dually look as well as I do a bit of hauling of "stuff". I also have a couple old trucks that i run to shows, etc.. I do have a full floater rear end, the "Bud" rims and the factory early 90's front wheel adaptors for the "Bud" rims. I would like to lower it a bit as well, not slammed but lowered. Alabama is a bit of a drive for me lol
By the way, Nice dually you have! I currently have a 05 Vortec motor / trans that I am considering swapping into the 86.

Re: 1986 C20 Dually conversion

I did the conversion a few years ago on my C20. I needed the extra width for towing my camper. Made a big difference while towing.

Re: 1986 C20 Dually conversion

Very nice. Where did you find the fenders? From another dually or aftermarket?

This is my other dually. The frame is a 1973 Chevrolet crew cab 1 ton dually, 76 454, 400 trans.

Re: 1986 C20 Dually conversion

Thanks for the tip, I will look into that. I fortunately found a bed from Tenn. practically right in my back yard. I am off to get it in just a couple of hours. Don't ask how I lucked out on this because I have no idea!

Re: 1986 C20 Dually conversion

Looks like you did good with that bed. I'm sure good southern parts are hard to come by that far north.

Re: 1986 C20 Dually conversion

It's been quite a while since I have updated, Life happened! It is all good but I was very busy since my last post. What I have done is a 14 bolt rear with disc brake conversion. A carbed 6.0 LS1 and the dually conversion, along with the wheels and tires that you see on it now. I still have a lot of little things to do, marker lights, rear bumper, body work, lowering,,,,,mild, 3/4 drop maybe.

Yes, with what I had it did. I understand there are 3 different rear end measurement possibilities, I got lucky I guess. I did need to use wheel spacers from Arrowcraft (great company to deal with) due to the disc brake swap, 16" rims would not fit over the calipers. The Spacers placed the tire wheel combo perfectly within the wheel well.

Re: 1986 C20 Dually conversion

A couple of engine pictures. It's a 2005 6.0, fresh rebuild with a mild Comp torque cam, carbed for old school look, It's bolted to the orIginal TH350 auto until I get the 4l80 prepped for it. Yes, thats dryer hose, playing with cold air intake and had the dryer hose laying around and was able to see if I liked the cold air set up.

Very good job, now you got true colder air then most that have changed over to the newer motors.( just because there sucking air behind rad.)
