Dead Cylinder 5.3 2016
Lost compression in Cyl.# 7 only
Has anyone experienced this problem? Went into limp mode!

Re: Dead Cylinder 5.3 2016
If I were a betting man, I would say the #7 DOD lifter failed. Common problem.

Re: Dead Cylinder 5.3 2016
Well, I guess with all the gas I have saved with DOD there should be more than enough to cover the repairs!!
Do they change all lifters on both banks? Sounds expensive?? Is there a permanent fix, or are we looking at this happening in another 80K miles?

Re: Dead Cylinder 5.3 2016
Interesting I thought they had these somewhat fixed, especially with the gen 5. I assume it's a gen 5 in 2016. I had similar problems on my 07 but they had a design flaw, well the entire concept is a design flaw as far as I'm concerned.
Have you pulled the valve cover and inspected things? Maybe pull the rocker arms off and make sure nothing else is bent or broke. |

Yep - agreed on GM not finding a fix. I know the 07 - 12 or so suffered premature engine failure issues due to loss of oil pressure when the lifters died. I guess at least now you just lose compression in a cylinder? DOD kit is the only way to go, then getting it flashed to disable it in the ECU as well. |

Re: Dead Cylinder 5.3 2016
Just disabling the system isnt a foolproof method, since you still have the DOD lifters in the engine which is the part that fails. Just because they aren't operating doesn't guarantee they will not fail.

Re: Dead Cylinder 5.3 2016
I agree its not fool proof, but by not operating them the failure rate goes down considerably with minimal effort. The part that usually fails is the pin, either by wear or by being out of time. Keep it locked and two of the main problems are no longer issues.
