72 400 Transmission
Anyone know how to read the plate on the side of this 400 I got other day. reads 72-CJ 428 and the Trans SN from what I found 72 truck year and 396 BB does this sound correct or ? Thanks

There were no 396 engines in 72 (so am not sure the SN lookup you used is reliable), however, TH400 would be the correct trans for a 72 (2WD only) that came with a 402.
TH400 SN is usually stamped on driver side just above the pan rail - any additional info there? |

The CJ stands for chevy truck or Suburban 72 was year I guess the one I used shows 396 in 72 for 3/4 ton suburban I will post the site when I get home what site you all using to decode.?

There is a lot of discussion about decoding engines and transmissions in these threads including discussion about my TH400.
