Mounting bed.. need advice
Having issues with mounting my bed
the PO had a bunch of washers stuffed under some of the bed cross sills and at the rear where the rear bed cross sill attaches to the frame. I have no idea what size goes where or if the washers (shims) should even be here. I have laid out the cross sills and if I out a straight edge across the sills the wood would hit the frame crossmember.. HELP!

Re: Mounting bed.. need advice
I thought we concluded that the pads were not factory used on the 60-66 trucks.

I removed the two pads on the front mounts( each side) to aline my bed to the cab.

So instead of purchasing pads and not knowing if they would work a went to the LHS and got some fiber reinforced rubber... damn stuff is bullet proof.. 1/8" and 1/4" and Voila!!! bed ligns up as it should with a few shims here and there. matches the cab nicely... pics after completion... in my build thread Scott

Re: Mounting bed.. need advice
I have a similar problem. I remember when I mocked up the bed all the sills were even across the top. Now I find that the rear one has about an 1/8" gap. Can't figure that out. I'm just gonna shim it...

Re: Mounting bed.. need advice
So funny how I thought I had this bed mounting whipped. Now I have everything all mocked up and nope. Took me several days of scratching my head to finally figure this thing out. (Sort of) After what seemed like forever searching these forums and others I have come to the conclusion that the bed I have on my truck is not the original. Should have known when I sanded the outside down and the paint under the top coat didn't match the cab. It appears to be a 60-62 bed. from what I have read on here the bedsides are different than the 63-66 beds. meaning the two will swap out but the older beds will not align with the cab exactly. Now I am getting creative to make it work.. It never ends..

Re: Mounting bed.. need advice
The '60-'66 bedsides are exactly the same. It is the rear sill and the crossmembers that have different mounting locations to the frame.

Re: Mounting bed.. need advice
trust me you want them rubber cushions. Plus you might want to add a few grounds to your bed for the lights and the Lic plate light with the rubber cushions. it had a problem with grounds.

You have to keep in mind the possible bed/cab alignment issues, especially if you have the white stripe and moulding. |
