Towing car trailer
I've got 75 k5 4 inch lift 35s LS 5.3 4L60E external trans cooler. I'm looking to tow my 39 Chevy on a 4 hour drive, bad idea or you guys think I'll be ok?

Re: Towing car trailer
Drive or 3rd what ever you want to call it. OD gears are traditionally weak since they are small compared to the drive gear. A 4L80 could get away with towing in OD on flat lands.
The 4L65E, TH700R4, 4L60, and 4L70E. I like them, and have 2 going into projects right now. Just they should never of been truck transmissions. There prefect for cars, but I have my reservations on them for trucks I work. My friend got a level 5 trans behind a 400hp 07 rcsb. His stock Corvette servo trans held for 65000 miles. The level 5 died in less then 20000. He beat on his truck like it owed money, and tried to compensate for it. The new trans like my 18 Silverado are the 6L80, and designed to do it. Or at least better at taking it. Plus like a guy above said make sure your truck trailer combo is level when towing so it doesn't walk all over the road. Get a adjustable drop hitch to help find the sweet spot. |

Re: Towing car trailer
What is your axle ratio?
4.10+ you can push the tow/haul if it’s enabled in your tune. 3.73- or if you don’t have tow/haul, leave it in 3rd. |

Re: Towing car trailer
If you haven't towed with the K5 before, take the time to set your hitch up properly and do a test run. You more than likely will need a drop hitch. You want your trailer set up level with some tongue weight. You don't want the front of your trailer up in the air. Are you wired up for your trailer brakes? Have a good, safe trip.

Re: Towing car trailer
I'm not a fan of towing something with a short wheel base. Just make sure you take your time, your trailer isn't loaded improperly. Remember that if you don't have enough weight on the tongue things will get sketchy quick. It's better to have a little to much weight on the tonque than not enough.

Re: Towing car trailer
It will be better due to likely lack of lift.
Blazer would be better due to probable heavier weight, but lose due to lift. The lift gives the trailer mechanical advantage to make the tow vehicle sway. I would take the truck, but the Blazer is fine if you take your time. Both while setting the trailer up, and driving |
