Dingo Sliders - 6" from Firewall?

The guys putting in my motor ensured the PS and DS mount piece that mounts to the block is correct but say all the way back the engine is 6" from the firewall. I did notice my perches are in the front holes on the frame which I think is correct. Is it feasible that the pieces that mount to the perches (the other piece of the slider) is flip-flopped? Any help would be appreciated as they are at a standstill and they didn't get much support when they called Dirty Dingo (they did confirm the part number on the box was for a 67-72 C10.

I haven't used these particular dirty dingo mounts, but based on your pictures it looks like the pieces you are worried about being flip flopped are symmetrical. So that shouldn't matter. Also, in the pictures it looks like the motor is slid all the way forward. Which would mean you can still slide it back 2 inches. I'm not sure which mounting holes in the frame you should have used, but also based on your pictures it looks like the rear mounting holes would get the motor back a few more inches. Hopefully someone with first hand experience can chime in for you.

I went to the shop and figured it out, yes the motor was slid all the way forward as you pointed out which I couldn't grasp from the picture and they are not familiar with these mounts so once I saw them we took the weight off and slid it back. Unfortunately this didn't move it back far enough and the shifter is still coming out under the dash. So also, as you pointed out, the next move will be to move to the I6 mounting holes. This should put us right where we need to be and sit the motor back near the firewall for better weight balance.

As a conclusion, if you use these sliders and want the motor as close to the firewall as possible like I do, start from the V6 mount location (the rear set of holes) rather than the V8 mount location.

The frame brackets for the I6 location are different than the frame brackets for the small block. The brackets for the GMC V6 would not be even close to working.

Sorry I was saying V6 in haste (edited to change); below is a post in my build thread that probably describes better:

"move your motor mounts to the remost hole, redrill the crossmember for the lower bolt.

I have done lots of LS swaps in 67-72's. I always use the dingo sliders, move the engine perches, adjust the location for the coils to clear, move trans crossmember where it lines up, go! "

The I6 engine mount brackets are longer than the small block brackets due to the shape of the crossmember. The small block brackets will ned to be shimmed up from the crossmember to maintain proper dimensions.

I am not sure what you mean by "maintain proper dimensions". Are you saying we will have issues setting the pinion angle with the V8 perches in the I6 location?

I am curious what other folks are doing with dingo sliders as in the stock v8 location the motor is very far away (about 6") from the firewall and my shifter would have come up about where the front of the dash is. We are bending the shifter a bit as to get it a bit further from the dash.

He's referring to the fact that there's a contoured shape to the top surface of the engine crossmember, so the SB and I6 frame brackets will only directly bolt onto the frame in their original factory positions. If you move the SB brackets rearward on the frame there will be a gap between the bottom feet of the brackets and the crossmember, which will need to be compensated for with shims.

Ok, I understand now. I am not sure if they shimmed them or not...I guess they would have needed to from reading above. It is a good note for anyone installing the sliders when they move their V8 mounts back.

I just installed mine with CPP adjustable motor mount brackets, and their perches in the forward, stock holes. With the engine slid all the way back on the brackets, the engine is in the perfect location.
