Most Desirable Flywheel to add to 350 crate motor?
So I have 2 to choose from, the first is P/N 3789733 and is the factory flywheel out of the 1966 292 C10. The other flywheel is P/N 3973456N and is the factory flywheel out of a 1971 307 C10. Either could be resurfaced properly with no heat check marks or major issues.
I thought I read that the "N" suffix denotes a nodular iron flywheel and those are stronger and more desirable? |

1st. Determine if your crate engine needs an internally or externally balanced flywheel.
2nd. For me, the most desirable is the flywheel is the one that works with my bell housing/ clutch disc/ pressure plate/ transmission & starter. If you don't have these parts yet, check your specs as you buy these items. |

Why would you put an 11" flywheel on a 350? They came stock with 12", at least in '69 they did-

Re: Most Desirable Flywheel to add to 350 crate motor?
Is it possible the difference is in how much they weigh? I would guess a 292 may have a heavy one since it was designed for hard work at low rpm.
I had 3 flywheels to choose from when I did my clutch and I could see that one of them was thicker than the other two. Ultimately, I decided to leave that one on the shelf since my truck is more of a cruiser than a worker these days. |
